No fewer than 10 students were said to have been kidnapped by a group of unknown gunmen on Friday along the Evwreni axis of the East-West road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

This was confirmed by the State Police Command Spokesman, Edafe Bright via his X page on Monday night, saying the force had deployed its personnel to go after the gunmen to ensure all the students are rescued unharmed.

“Gunmen have abducted 10 students travelling along the Evwreni axis of the East-West road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta state.

“The Command is aware of this ugly incident, and we are doing all it takes to ensure that they are rescued unhurt,” Edafe wrote.

It was learned that the students were returning from their school in Cross River State when they were accosted by the gunmen on Friday.

They were all kidnapped except their driver who escaped unhurt.

This is coming barely two weeks after The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Christopher Gwabin Musa  ordered the immediate investigation and arrest of those involved in the killing of a Commanding Officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 soldiers of 181 Amphibious Battalion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.

The Acting Director, Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, who made this known in a statement on Saturday said that the military officers were killed on Thursday while on a peace mission to Okuama community in Bomadi Local Government Area of the State.

They were surrounded and killed by some youths of the community, the military noted.
